Similar to ancient Greek myth, western society remains strongly patriarchal in nature. Still, much progress has been made to gain greater equality and power for women in the arena of marriage, work, and politics. In matters of love, it seems that women may have surfaced as their own worst enemy. Liberation now allows them, often to their detriment, to do willingly what men acquired from them by force in times past.
