The Untrodden Ways: The Story of Lucy
The Untrodden Ways: The Story of Lucy was written by Hannah Mussett in 1975 and takes place in England's countryside. The book was written for the sole purpose of educating people on how Mussett and other parents feel when raising a child like Lucy in the mid-seventies. Lucy was born with Down Syndrome but in the book they refer to her as a Mongol.

Mussett would not have been alone in this situation. In the seventies not many people in England's countryside had children with disabilities. It was less common but nowadays everything is changed and more people are keeping their children with disabilities home with the family. Now there are support groups for parents with disabled children. Stories like this one are what I think makes me so intrigued and interested in becoming a teacher of the handicapped.
