It has failed especially in the nurturing of self-esteem, and has refused to address a major cause of student failure in a middle-class school system: poverty. The best way to deal with the injustice of a class system is to eliminate poverty and create a classless, equitable, democratic society. This is the direction in which Scandinavian countries like Norway have stepped towards.
