Among the years 1997 through 2001, 6,909 people have been killed in Michigan traffic crashes. Out of 1,981 drivers involved in fatal crashes in Michigan, 22.9% of all drivers were under 25 years old. According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, 4 out of 5 accidental deaths for teenagers and young adults (ages 15-24) are due to motor vehicle crashes.
