Donne's superb use of wit is evident in all of his poems, yet it may be witnessed in many various contexts such as humorous, melancholy, religious and scientific circumstances. Whilst it is true that many of Donne's poems are humorous, through his use of ambiguity, sexual puns and other means, it is important not to lose sight of his sentiment often conveyed along side the enticing wit. …it is interesting to read I feel it lacks the significance of Donne's other poems as the focus is principally humour orientated wit. From the poems that I have focused on I believe that Donne often provides an interesting read alongside intelligent conceits, which offers well rounded poems which appeal universally. Wit definitely serves better purposes when it conveys feeling, and Donne has proved this with his poetry with it being appealing in every respect.
