John Locke embraced many ideas Hobbes presented in his theories on the state of nature and the rise of government and society. Locke's ideas represent a more liberal approach to government and are appealing for they offer men a more active role in politics and, by keeping the supreme power with the people and paving the way for stable democratic regimes.
