George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four takes us through Winston Smith's life in the period of a year. Winston lives in a world made up of three main states: Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. Although the book didn't leave me with a clearer understanding of the people and their lifestyles during the 1980's, it did help me to understand how events of the past similar to those written about in Nineteen Eighty-Four transpired.
