In Gail Godwin's short story "A Sorrowful Woman," the plot seems to be about family and marriage, but it seems to be presented in a very different way. The nameless character is very unhappy with her marriage and family. She lives at home all the time and towards the end of the story she loses everything. This story strictly discourages marriage and life after marriage.

from whatever she did. The main cause of this family's separation was the woman's sickness. No other character or the plot of this story could have changed the consequence, but if the husband was a regular fictional character who believed in old marital traditions, the ending might have been different and more typical. The author did a very good job in separating this story form the rest and makes it more interesting for the readers.
